Initial Media Logistics Information for President Jimmy Carter’s Funeral Coverage

Dec. 29, 2024

The Carter Center and the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTF-NCR) are working together with numerous agencies to coordinate resources for media coverage of the state funeral ceremonies for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. As soon as possible, The Carter Center will send a follow-up release containing all pertinent details. In the meantime, below are some high-level logistics to assist media in planning and preparing for the coming days.

Please visit www.jimmycartertribute.org for additional information, including the schedule of events.

Courtesy Locations
Courtesy locations have been arranged for media to do stand-ups and live shots at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and in downtown Plains, Georgia. The Carter Center campus is closed for the duration of events, but media may report from the grassy area (known as the Triangle) in front of the Carter Presidential Center sign. Broadcast vehicles will not be permitted until Day 3 of events, and registration will be required.

Pack and Prepare
The following will be required and/or helpful in the coming days:

  • IDs and Confirmation Email: Media identification with photo will be required to access courtesy spaces. This must include the ID provided by your current media employer and a driver’s license or passport. Please also be prepared to present your confirmation email from The Carter Center for security and/or staff. Access will be granted only to working media.
  • Register for Media Access: To access courtesy locations, you will need to register (registration forms forthcoming). Please be prepared to provide details, including headcount, outlet name, outlet location, and program/division/talent, as well as the main point of contact and mobile number so we can quickly follow up as needed.
  • Operate Using Alternate Methods: Satellite trucks will not be allowed at courtesy locations until Day 3 of events.
  • Register for Broadcast Truck Access: To park a broadcast vehicle at a courtesy location, you will need to register (registration forms forthcoming) and provide details related to your outlet’s broadcast vehicle, including the engineer in charge or technical contact, vehicle length/width, and type of power tie-in.
  • Payment for Power: We will make every effort to provide film-grade quiet generators with distribution panels for a fee (per location, per connection). No private generators will be permitted. If your outlet is requesting power access for its production vehicle, you’ll need to provide a credit card. Credit card payments will be processed via DocuSign via a link sent in advance of truck parking.
  • Cables:
    • The cable ramp from permanently parked satellite trucks to the live stand-up location is at least 300 feet and could be more than 600 feet. Media outlets also will need to provide their own power drop of 100-150 feet to the distribution panels.
    • For the Atlanta location: Please provide your own CAT 6 lines to fit into the provided switcher. Please provide a length of at least 200 feet.
  • Tents: Tents will not be provided. Each registered media outlet is allowed one tent no larger than 10x10; tent setup is allowed only in designated areas.

Complete details, including registration links for courtesy locations and official ceremonies, will be shared via news advisory as soon as possible.
