We invite you to read notable tributes in memory of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.
His unwavering commitment to people’s wellbeing in the United States and around the world will be remembered forever. His work through The Carter Center has saved countless lives and helped bring many neglected tropical diseases close to elimination.
Dear partners and friends at The Carter Center,
On behalf of Merck & Co. Inc, we send our sincere condolences on the passing of President Jimmy Carter to the Carter family and everyone at The Carter Center. President Carter was a dedicated, conscientious public servant who made a positive and profound difference in the world. At Merck, we're particularly honored to have collaborated with President Carter to work toward the elimination of river blindness for more than 37 years. His legacy will resonate for generations, continuing to inspire and shape the global landscape. May he rest in the peace he wished for the world.
With heartfelt condolences,
On behalf of Lions International and Lions around the world, it is with great sadness that we mark the passing of a great leader, a great Lion, and a great man. Lions International extends its condolences to the family of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. President Carter believed in building alliances, in the virtue and just pursuit of human dignity, and in the power that we have to transform not only our world, but ourselves.
Lions Clubs International Foundation has been proud to partner with The Carter Center for nearly 30 years. Our partnership is among the most important and long-lasting relationships enjoyed by the SightFirst program and LCIF. Together, we’ve worked to combat avoidable blindness around the world through our joint efforts in onchocerciasis and trachoma control programs. The Lions family is grateful to President Carter for his lifelong humanitarian spirit and dedicated service to the people of the world.
President Jimmy Carter exemplified what it means to live a life of faith and service to others. His love for and conservation of our shared public lands leaves a tremendous legacy, and I am grateful that the Department will continue to honor his work at the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park for generations to come.
He really was anchored in the Lord. And that made him open to all of God's children, regardless of their nationality, their race, their creed, their national origin or religion. It made him a citizen of the world. A disciple of Jesus Christ, who wandered the world, bestowing forgiveness and love on all of us who need it.
Jimmy Carter will be remembered not just as the 39th POTUS but for living one of the most remarkable lives in American history. He made every one of his 100 years count, lived his faith and placed service to others above greed, vanity and self-aggrandizement.
Jimmy Carter was a true public servant and peacemaker. Our country is a better place because of him. My thoughts are with his family.
There will not be another like President Carter, but his life and example will continue to make America and the world a better place for generations to come.
President Carter will be remembered for his solidarity with the vulnerable, his abiding grace, and his unrelenting faith in the common good and our common humanity.
His legacy as a peacemaker, human rights champion and humanitarian will endure.
President Jimmy Carter was a Humanitarian, a patriot, an advocate. He and Muhammad Ali shared a long friendship, & we share in the country’s mourning the loss of this giant figure.
“Our common humanity is stronger than the divisiveness of our fears & prejudices.”- Jimmy Carter
His life is a master class in making every minute count.
At the age of 100, President Carter left behind an immeasurable legacy of peace, justice, and compassion. His unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes, particularly the fight against malaria in Haiti, has touched and improved countless lives. The Carter Center, which he founded, has been a beacon of hope and positive change for so many people around the world. In Haiti, his commitment and the Carter Center’s efforts to support the Ministry of Health Malaria program (PNCM) towards eradicating malaria, have been particularly remarkable and have had a lasting impact on the health and well-being of the populations, as well as the Ministry’s program. We share your sorrow during this difficult time and remember with gratitude Jimmy Carter's immense contribution to our world.
Some people mark our lives in what they write, say or simply a way of being. Former President Carter was one of the greatest humanists we were allowed to know. Though he was a great president for his country, a peace worker for the world, he has above all been sensitive to the suffering of the poor and the suffering people around the world. With the departure of this icon, a whole symbol of friendship and active solidarity is parting, leaving a void that will be difficult to fill.
I adored Jimmy Carter. My dad was from Dublin, Georgia, and I always felt a kindred spirit in him. I was privileged to interview him on a number of occasions. People can debate his presidency, but man, his post-presidency was unparalleled. He and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, personally helped build, renovate, and repair over 4,300 homes in 14 countries through Habitat for Humanity. He also led the international campaign through his organization, the Carter Center, to eradicate Guinea worm disease. A champion of human rights and the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for “his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.” Rest in peace, Mr. President. We are grateful for you and your unfailing decency. ❤️🇺🇸
